... is not Biblical
Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale Florida Bankruptcy Attorney Kevin Gleason
Before we dig into the Word, let’s pray.
| Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. |
Let us just stop right there for now.
The following portion of the Bible might make one believe that failure to pay one’s debts is “unbiblical.”
|
“The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again...” Ps 37: 21 |
The Bankruptcy Code is in total harmony with the Bible in this regard. Section 523 of the Bankruptcy Code provides, in pertinent part,
|
A discharge ... does not discharge an individual debtor from any debt for money... obtained by ... fraud, ..., embezzlement, or larceny... |
If the Bankruptcy Code is in agreement with the Bible, then how is bankruptcy un-Biblical?
The following passages of Scripture show the Biblical blessing upon discharge of indebtedness for persons who have not stolen money, or borrowed without the intention of repayment.

Read the Word. Decide for yourself.
As to those “Biblical” Christians, who might advise you to bust your retirement savings to pay your credit card debts. Have them review Genesis 41:36.
